1. What do you traditionally do for 4th of July?
My parents have a party every year, usually on the 3rd.  Sometimes I go to Communityfest at Riverside Park, but this year I changed it up and went to Jefferson Park in Metrasha instead. I'm kind of over fireworks since I don't like dealing with all those people and mosquitos.

2. Did you follow your tradition this year? How did you celebrate yesterday?
Yup.  Ryan had off this year so we went to the park together to see the waterski show which wasn't all that impressive.  We also enjoyed a dinner outside on the lake at Waverly.

3. What’s the best fireworks show you’ve ever seen?
Probably the year we saw them from a boat!  It was so much easier than dealing with the crowds at the park!

4. Have you ever been injured by a firecracker?
No.  I don't light fireworks.  I've only done snaps and sparklers!

5. Burger, Brat, or Hot Dog?
It depends on the day.  Usually a brat, but since I've been preggo I tend to like burgers more.  I normally don't like red meat!

6. Do you sport red, white and blue on our Independence Day?
No.  I don't like to dress like everyone else.

7. If you had to be from any country other than the USA, what country would it be?
Australia. I will go there someday!

8. Charcoal or gas?
We have a gas grill.  It just seems so much easier.

9. What’s your favorite thing about this fair country of ours?
It's hard to say since I've only been outside of this country for our honeymoon!

10. God Bless the USA, My Country Tis of Thee, or the Star Spangled Banner?
Party in the USA, haha

I think there are more people left in the competition that I don't like than those I do like.  That being said the opening song with contestants who have already been sent home was actually pretty terrible. I hate when they do group songs on this show because the voices are all so different that it never sounds good.

I know a lot of people love the judges, but Ryan Seacrest is really who makes this show.  I love little Ryan!  And he's dating Julianne Hough so he's got everything going for him!

1. McCreepy singing Swingin'

I'm glad the other contestants made fun of him for how he holds the microphone.  Obviously he doesn't care since he came out holding it the same way.  I don't know the song at all because country music sucks.  It honestly seemed like an odd song choice to me.  I can't believe there are really that many people who like country music to keep voting for him.  I don't get it.  And way to go J. Lo for calling him out on not stepping out of his comfort zone!

2. James Durbin singing Uprising

I'm also glad for the other contestants making fun of his scarf tail.  I don't get it either!  I don't know the song he chose and I didn't like it either.  I don't know that it was really the best song to showcase his voice, but he's going to s ing whatever he wants anyway.  At least he knows who he wants to be.  I don't think I would be interested in buying his album if he won.  I think he's a good singer but he doesn't sing genres that I like to listen to.

3. Haley Reinhart singing Rolling in the Deep

As much as it pains me to say this, she is my favorite so far.  I love her song choice, and it works for her voice.  After her performance this week I'd actually be surprised if she's in the bottom 3.  There are actually worse than her at this point (McCreepy, Jacob, Stefano...)

4. Jacob Lusk singing Dance With My Father

Jacob is totally a diva!  Again, I don't know the song he chose.  He often looks like he's in pain when he sings.  It doesn't look natural.  I actually thought he did a better job than normal because it wasn't way over the top this week.

5. Casey Abrams singing Harder to Breathe

I can't believe Casey picked this song, but when I heard the beginning it made sense since he changed it a bit.  He certainly doesn't have the best vocals but he's got enough personality to potentially make something of himself in the music industry.  I think he embarrassed J. Lo which was quite humorous.

6. Stefano Langone singing Closer

Stefano definitely thinks he's a ladies man and obviously he must be because I don't know how else he's stayed for so long.  But this song was all wrong and hopefully will do him in.  I don't think this song would be good for anyone.

7. Lauren Alaina singing Born to Fly

Lauren's voice is suited for country music.  Unfortunately that means I wouldn't buy her album if she won the show.  She's not nearly as good as Carrie Underwood and since they're both from Idol I'm sure she'll always be compared to Carrie.  I like that my man Steven Tyler had to look at his notes to name country singers since he's obviously not a country guy himself.

1. When someone asks you for a book recommendation, what is your go-to book?
My Horizontal Life by Chelsea Handler.  Hands down the most hilarious book I've ever read!

2.  Do you buy your books, or are you a library patron?
I haven't been to the library in a while.  I buy some books, but more often I swap books from either goodreads.com or bookmooch.com.

3.  E-readers, yay or nay?
I just got an e-reader but I haven't used it yet.  I think the first book I'll put on it is Chelsea Handler's new book that comes out next month.

4.  What was your favorite book as a child?
My favorite children's book was Caps for Sale.  Once I started getting older I enjoyed The Babysitters Club series.

5.  If you could be any character in a book, who would you be?
Chelsea Handler.  She's not really a character since she's a real person but I would love to be her!

6.  What book would you love to see turned into a movie?
I usually get disappointed when they make books into movies. The Green Mile was a good one though!

7.  What is your all-time favorite book?
See #1

8.  How many books do you read at once?
One or two.  I'm struggling to get into my current book so I started reading a second.  I'm not sure if I'll ever try to finish the first one I started.

9.  What is your favorite book genre?
I guess chick lit.  I don't like to think too hard.  I like an easy read so I can get through the book fast.

10.  Which Harry Potter book is the best?  Or haven’t you read them at all?
I haven't read the books or seen any of the movies, and I think it's a little late to get on that train!

1. If you work, do you drive to work or take public transportation?
I drive to work.  I don't know that I could rely on public transportation where I live!

2. How often do you get your haircut? Do you go to the same person every time?
I get my hair cut whenever I feel like a change.  I actually just got a cut tonight!  I typically go on a Tuesday because Cost Cutters has $10 Tuesday's!  I'm not picky with my hair so I just go to a Cost Cutters since you can walk in, no appointments necessary.  I used to go to the same Cost Cutters and would get the same girl all the time, but the last time she did my hair was right before my wedding so it's been a while.

3. Do you read the newspaper? If so, a hardcopy or the online version?
I read the Sunday newspaper in print.  I sometimes read the Post Crescent online, but usually only if an article sparks my interest from their Twitter posts.

4. What is the best book you have read this year?
I've sucked at reading this year.  Actually I shouldn't admit this but I bought a Sony Reader finally and haven't even downloaded a book for it yet!  I actually have been reading some "reference" type books lately rather than novels.

5. What is the best movie you have seen this year?
I saw 2 movies in the theatre this year, Tangled and Hall Pass.  Both were pretty good, but obviously I enjoyed Hall Pass better!

6. Do you tend to crave sweet or salty foods?
Usually sweet, but more sour than sweet!  I have Sour Punch straws and lemon drops on my desk at work right now.

7. Do you eat breakfast every day? If so, what do you have?
I always eat breakfast at work.  Weekends are more of a struggle typically except for recent weeks.  I eat breakfast every morning!  I love Go-Gurt even if it makes me look 5 years old when I eat it!

8. If you celebrate Easter, what Easter treat/candy are you most looking forward to?
I usually like Robin's Eggs but I have a bag that I've barely even touched.  I don't know what's wrong with me!  I like the Reese's eggs and Cadbury eggs also, but haven't had any yet this year.  Maybe the Easter Bunny will visit?

9. How late is “sleeping in” to you?
Sleeping until my alarm goes off!  I always seem to wake up before it goes off.  On the weekends I don't typically set an alarm but I'm usually up by 8am.

10. Where are you going on your next vacation?
We have zero vacation plans.  I think we'll be getting more visitors here this year!

1. Jacob Lusk singing Man in the Mirror

I'm glad he changed his song choice because I couldn't imagine him singing Let's Get it On.  I love the MJ song so much!, it's just too bad I don't like Jacob.  He actually did a decent job if you just listened to him and didn't look at the TV at all.  It's really creepy when his eyes bug out when he really gets into his singing.  He's just too over the top and needs to be a gospel singer.  I hope he goes soon because I don't know how much more I can handle.

2. Haley Reinhart singing Take a Little Piece of My Heart

Well if there was any style that suited her terrible voice this would be it.  I just don't like her growl at all.  I don't think she can honestly sing at all.  It's like she was screaming the whole time.  I don't get why the judges like her so much.

3. Casey Abrams singing Have You Ever Seen the Rain

I love this song and Casey rocks.  I love that he is able to play multiple instruments.  His voice certainly isn't the strongest but he picks really good songs for his voice.  He is definitely a performer and I would love to see him in concert if he won!

4. Lauren Alaina singing Natural Woman

I think she is super cute and definitely has a career in singing.  I've loved her from her first audition.  She did a good job with this song!  She even did a little bit of a growl but it was controled and GOOD, unlike Haley's.  Her hair was a little different but it worked on her since she's so darn cute!

5. James Durbin singing While My Guitar Gently Weeps

I don't know this song at all.  I did think it was strange that he chose to do a ballad on rock week.  He will probably do very well considering he is comparable to Adam Lambert.  He probably doesn't like being compared to Adam but their voices are very similar.  I think his song was pretty good, so I'm glad he chose to slow it down to show he can do that also.

6. Scotty McCreepy singing That's Alright Mama

This is just ridiculous.  I saw him come in on the stairs and had to fast forward the rest.

7. Pia Toscano singing River Deep Mountain High

I don't know how I feel about her outfit this week.  The necklaces remind me of the African women in National Geographic magazines.  She's so pretty she can make just about anything look good though.  I think her song choice showed that she can do more than just ballads.  She definitely has the best voice out of all of the girls.

8. Stefano Langone singing When a Man Loves a Woman

I don't like his high range.  It doesn't work for him.  It was just okay.  I'm not in love with him, but the teen girls definitely are.

9. Paul McDonald singing Folsom Prison Blues

I don't know this song at all.  I only know like 2 Johnny Cash songs (1 of them being the obvious-Ring of FIre).  It definitely seemed like Paul's type of song.  It wasn't really my type of song, but it works for him.  I still like him though!!!

When I heard it was Elton John week my first thought was "I wonder who is going to be the first to say they never heard of Elton John" or "Who is going to be the first to say they don't know any Elton John songs" because that seems to be the case every week when they do these themes.  Part of me wishes they didn't even do themes because it would give the contestants a chance to sing in their own genre, which would be what they would sing if they actually WON the show.  I don't know what the point it in having them sing other genres other than to show who has the most versatility.  Maybe they won't need to be versatile if they kick butt in a certain genre?!

Onto the show...

1. Scotty McCreepy singing Country Comfort

Why did Elton John have to do a country song? I hate country!!!  I don't know the song, but I guess Scott is an alright country singer from what I know of country music.  I'm just not a fan...

2. Naima Adedapo singing I'm Still Standing

I like that she tries to change the songs.  It certainly was not the right way to go with this song, but it wasn't that terrible.  I think for reggae it was alright.  I don't think she's going to win but she'll probably have a career in music at the end of this.

3. Paul McDonald singing Rocket Man

I loved that they said he could do commercials for toothpaste because he totally could with those teeth!  I have to admit sometimes it's a bit hard to understand what he's singing so he needs to enunciate better.  I still like his singing style, but this wasn't my favorite.  His outfit is pretty obnoxious as well.  Something about him draws me in and I really like to watch him perform.

4. Pia Toscano singing Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me

Every time I hear this song I think of Clay Aiken singing it.  It's weird to me to hear a female singing it.  I thought she was a bit pitchy at the beginning but it got better.  She's so pretty and she's got an amazing voice!  If ballads are working for her she should stick to them!  It will be interesting to see her sing something different though.

5. Stefano Langone singing Tiny Dancer

I really liked him tonight!  This is probably my favorite of the night so far!  I'm pretty sure he had J. Lo's heart before he serenaded her, but I'm sure it didn't hurt for him to do it anyway!

6. Lauren Alaina singing Candle in the Wind

It's strange for me to hear a female singing this song also.  I didn't like her dress that's for sure!  I actually didn't care for this song for Lauren, but she's still super cute!  I guess the judges loved it, so I'm sure she'll be safe!  Her mom looks like she could be Lauren's sister...I'm guessing she had some work done!

7. James Durbin singing Saturday Night's Alright

I'm glad he didn't have a tail tonight!  It took me until the chorus to actually get into this one and appreciate how he changed it.  He was really all over the place on the stage tonight!

8. Thia Megia singing Daniel

She was pretty pitchy to me, but she had some good moments too.  Overall I don't think it was a good choice for her.  She definitely seems too timid up on stage.

9. Casey Abrams singing Your Song

This is probably my favorite Elton John song so I may be partial here!  It was nice to see Casey be a little more calm.  I'm glad he didn't cut his hair or trim the beard too much!  He shouldn't change just because they suggest it, he should only do it if HE wants to!  I really liked Casey this week and I'm glad the judges saved him!

10. Jacob Lusk singing Sorry Seems to be the Hardest Word

I can't imagine Jacob as a recording artist.  The only think I can truly see him doing is gospel music.  He's practically in tears when he sings, so  I can imagine how dramatic he would be if he was in the bottom 3, let alone going home.

11. Haley Reinhart singing Benny and the Jets

This was definitely her best performance.  I still don't like her growl and couldn't listen to more than 1 song at a time of it.

Who I think will go home (this is not who I want to go home):

Thia Megia

Naima Adedapo

1. What is a food that you never thought you would try, but then tried and liked?
Spinach and sushi!  I don't eat the raw meat sushi, but the california rolls and any of the tempura or cream cheese ones are pretty good!

2. Do you subscribe to any foodie publications? If so, which ones?
Nope.  I use allrecipes.com or the cookbooks I have on hand.  I did take a photo album and made it into a cookbook.  I add recipes that I find in magazines to the photo album and have separate sections for different food categories.  It's my favorite cookbook because it's all recipes I love and they almost all have pictures!

3. What ingredient do you find yourself reaching for the most when you cook?
Probably spices.  I like my food spicy!

4. Are there any foods that you hated as a child, but then learned to like as an adult?
Chinese food.  I was scared to try it when I was younger!

5. What do you like to eat that others may consider weird?
I'm pretty boring overall, so I can't think of anything.

6. What is the weirdest ingredient you’ve ever cooked with?
I'm not very adventurous and I don't cook very often so I can't think of anything.

7. Do you have any major food allergies?
No, but I like to say I'm lactose intolerant so I don't have to drink milk!

8. Is there an ingredient that you would like to cook with, but are intimidated to try?
Recipes with more than 10 ingredients!

9. Do you bake?
Yes, but not usually from scratch!  I'm MUCH better at baking than cooking!

10.  If you could go on any “foodie” show to compete, which one would it be, and why?
None because I would lose!  I can't even think of any except Cupcake Wars.  If I was on that show I would probably be disqualified for eating all of them!

It's Motown week!  Certainly not my favorite theme, especially considering the age of the contestants but whatever.  I hate when the contestants have to pick songs they don't even know.  I suppose they should know most of these songs though.

I watched this week with Ryan so some of his commentary may have made this post!  Since I watched with Ryan and we DVR the show I had the pleasure of getting to pause Idol to take a basketball break...lucky me!  We also watched a day late so you probably already know who got voted off, but I don't yet!

1. Casey Abrams singing Heard It Through the Grapevine

I love Casey!  I didn't like Casey's hair tonight.  He either needs to shave his beard or wear it without any product like before.  I think he chose a good song and he always has fun up there.  He's a natural performer.  Ryan noticed tonight that the guide on our TV lists the "cast" of the show in the following order:  Casey Abrams, Ryan Seacrest, Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez.  Casey is on there but Steven Tyler isn't?  Weird!

2. Thia Megia singing Heat Wave

I don't think her song choice was very good.  It was more up tempo like the judges requested of her last week, but I don't think she has star quality.  Her voice is good, but she's not amazing, or even really unique.

3. Jacob Lusk singing You're All I Need to Get By

I actually liked the background singers better than Jacob at the beginning!  I think he was the best this week, but I'm still not a fan.  Jacob is usually a spaz so he was much easier to watch this week, but it looks like he wasn't comfortable standing there with a microphone stand.  He wanted to move all over.  Ryan hates him, so I kind of hope he sticks around because I like Ryan's commentary on the bad ones!  Ryan's prediction: the judges will use their save on Jacob, but that he will still go home the following week.

4. Lauren Alaina singing Keep Me Hanging On

I love her zebra dress in the preview video...I'm kind of partial to anything zebra!  I like her long dress even better!  This girl is super cute and has an awesome personality and voice.  She's going places!  She did a good job!  I wish she would do some Melissa Ethridge or something similar.

5. Stefano Langone singing Hello

It seems like he wants to be a Latino singer.  I don't know the song very well, but I guess he did alright.  I think the young girls will still vote for him.

6. Haley Reinhart singing You Really Got a Hold on Me

I love her hair curly, but Ryan likes it better straight.  Ryan says unless she takes her top off she's going home.  He said he would even vote for her if she did.  I couldn't imagine listening to a whole CD of her singing, or should I say growling?  She can leave as far as I'm concerned.

7. Scotty McCreery singing For Once in my Life

I can't help but think his last name looks like "McCreepy" whenever I see it.  Why would he even dare "put a country vibe" into a Motown song?!  Lame!  No thank you McCreepy!  He needs to be more versatile.

8. Pia Toscano singing All in Love is Fair

I didn't know this song prior to watching it tonight.  PIa is probably my favorite girl, now that I know Lauren Alaina is a country girl.  Pia has the biggest voice for the girls in the competition so she'll continue to do well as long as she picks good songs.

9. Paul McDonald singing Tracks of my Tears

First off, I love this song, but nobody on Idol will EVER be able to top Adam Lambert (my love) singing the song!  Prior to hearing Paul sing Ryan thought Paul would do better than my man Adam.  I do love Paul, but my love for Adam is WAY greater!  Paul changed it up a bit and I liked his arrangement.  I like him playing the guitar better than dancing around.  His voice seems a lot like Rod Stewart, but a bit more quirky.

10. Naima Adedapo singing Dancing in the Streets

I actually liked her outfit today.  It wasn't a bold print like she normally wears.  She even gave a shout out for Milwaukee!  Her dancing was kind of fun!  I'm not a huge fan, but she's my 3rd favorite girl!

11. James Durbin singing Living for the City

I don't know this song either.  I still hate his tail!  He's a pretty darn good singer, and probably the best guy.  I like Paul better, but James has a better voice overall.

1.  What condiments are always, always in your fridge?
Frank's buffalo wing sauce, Sweet Baby Ray's barbecue sauce, ranch dressing, ketchup, salsa

2.   How do you like your steak cooked?  Your burgers?
I don't eat steak.  On the rare occasion that I choose to order a burger I order it well done.

3.  What’s your favorite use for fresh tomatoes?
Nothing.  I pick them out of just about everything that contains them.

4.  What’s your go-to dinner when you haven’t planned anything in advance and you don’t feel like going out?
Take out!  I suck at cooking and I'm usually on my own so I don't cook very often.

5.  What’s your favorite snack food lately?
Peanut Butter Snickers or Hershey's Drops (white chocolate).  At work I try to eat Blueberry Craisins or peanut butter granola squares.

6.  What’s your favorite weekend breakfast to make at home?
I don't make breakfast too often.  I can make scrambled eggs, bacon and pancakes.  I hate making bacon though because there's WAY too much grease!  Ryan loves it though!

7.  What’s your favorite thing to grill?  How do you do it?
Chicken!  I like to marinate it in a Lawry's seasoning or use lemon pepper spices.  Being from Wisconsin I like brats as well!

8.  What’s your favorite wine for under $10? If you’re not a wine person, what brand of beer is your favorite?
I'm not a wine or beer person.  I can tolerate and may even order a Riesling if I'm feeling classy!

9.  Give us your most delicious cocktail recipe.
These 3 are my go-to drinks:

Raspberry UV vodka and lemonade

Grape UV vodka and 7-up/Sprite

Lime vodka and lemonade

10.  How do you like your eggs?
Scrambled, with some shredded cheese mixed in!

I'll try and post my thoughts every week on Idol.  Let me know your thoughts in the comments!

1. Naima Adedapo singing What's Love Got to Do WIth It

I've wanted to like Naima ever since I found out she's from Milwaukee and works at the Summerfest grounds.  I do think she's unique, not only in her style but her voice.  After last week and this week however I could take her or leave her.  Tonight she was pitchy.  I liked her song choice but it didn't work for her, at all.  What is with contestants singing Tina Turner songs and murdering them this season?

2. Paul McDonald singing I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues

I pretty much love Paul.  He is the most unique contestant in my opinion.  When he sang Maggie May the first week that was the perfect song for him.  Some people probably hate they awkward way he moves when he sings but I love watching him!  He is really good at picking songs for his voice.  The songs he picks should draw in the older women (ahem my mom ahem).  This week he was a little pitchy.  He did do a good job of making the song his own without changing it too much.  His teeth are super white too.  I love his smile!

3. Thia Megia singing Colors of the Wind

Ryan absolutely loves her name and has to say her full name when he talks about her.  I loved her the first week the best.  She actually looks like Pocahontas this week!  After hearing her voice you would never guess she's only 16.  This week she was good, but I agree with Randy that she was kind of boring.

4. James Durbin singing I'll Be There For You

It's hard to believe he has tourettes since it doesn't affect him when he sings.  His voice is basically amazing and he's pretty cute too.  I hate that tail he has hanging out of the back of his pants...it's pointless!  This week was my least favorite performance of his because it was more like he was screaming rather than singing.

5. Haley Reinhart singing I'm Your Baby Tonight

I think Haley is gorgeous and I love her hair.  I just think she plays on her sex appeal a little too much.  This week she was really terrible. I'm not a fan of hers at all.  I don't even think she could keep up with the song.  I didn't like her red lipstick either.  I loved when Ryan tried to get it off her chin and then the camera stopped zooming in so close to her face, haha.

6. Stefano Langone singing If You Don't Know Me by Now

I kind of wished he would have sang Milli Vanilli or NKOTB, haha!  I actually would have thought this song was older than it is.  He did a really good job with it and changed it up a little bit to make it his own.  He also chose a good shirt color (pink) to wear!  I think a lot of ladies will be voting for him this week!

7. Pia Toscano singing Where Do Broken Hearts Go

Pia is gorgeous.  I would love to look like her!  She did really amazing her first 2 weeks so I was curious to see if she could keep it up a 3rd week.  It's a little hard for me to judge without actually knowing the song she's singing, but I was not a fan.  Some parts were good but overall I didn't like it.  Her outfit was terrible too.

8. Scotty McCreery singing Can I Trust You with My Heart

He isn't very versatile at all.  I actually hate country music and that's about all Scotty is good at.  I am surprised he's made it this far.  I don't know the song he's singing at all so I can't really judge this one.  His eyebrows are fun to watch when he sings though.  I wouldn't miss him if he went home...

9. Karen Rodriguez singing Love Will Lead You Back

Her hair!  Who told her that looked good???  She actually looked like a go go dancer which is not a good look for anyone.  Her song reminds me of the dentist/orthodontist office because it's the kind of music they always have playing there.  I actually like the song, but I don't know how well the rest of America will like it.  She definitely improved from last week!  I love when she sings in Spanish too even though I don't understand anything she's singing!

10. Casey Abrams singing Smells Like Teen Spirit

His parents are kind of funny so it's pretty obvious where he gets it from!  He gets best personality for sure!  He's super talented because he can play so many different instruments.  He doesn't have the strongest voice but he's an awesome performer so that makes up for what his voice lacks.  His song actually didn't seem like one he would pick at all.  He was just okay, but I tihnk it that song would be hard for anyone (except maybe James).

11. Lauren Alaina singing I'm the Only One

This girl has been my favorite since the first time I saw her during auditions.  She is super pretty and she just likes to have fun.  Her parents look SO young too!  If I could change anything about her it would be the southern accent (I also hate those) and the fact that she sings a lot of country.  I'm glad she stepped out of the country arena this week, but it wasn't very strong.  She had a lot of pitch problems but I'm just going to blame it on her having the flu!  I'm surprised the judges were so kind to her actually!

12. Jacob Lusk singing Alone

Jacob is hard for me to watch because he closes his eyes too much.  He should be a gospel choir leader or something.  I don't think he would be a good recording artist.  I love Heart but it seems like an odd choice for him.  I don't like how he changed this one at all.  He uses way too much vibrato.  He's such a spaz when he sings that I wonder how they are even able to coach/mentor him!  Steven Tyler must not be a big fan since he messed up his name.

Other Things to Note:

  • I love J. Lo's hair and makeup tonight.  The purple eyeshadow looks awesome on her.  I don't like her outfit, but I'm not a fan of leopard print...I'm a zebra print girl!
  • I am not obsessed with any of the contestants this season like I was with Adam Lambert.  I still absolutely love Adam and always will.  My Idol obsession this season is with Steven Tyler.  I'm strangely attracted to him.  It's probably more-so his personality than his looks since he's quite a bit older than me.  Plus he curses a lot so what's not to love?!
  • Don't forget to download the songs from tonight!  The proceeds are going to help Japan!
